Head of the Hepatology Division at the Department of Medicine II, Leipzig University Hospital (since 2020). Specializes in viral hepatitis, autoimmune liver disease, liver cirrhosis, liver transplantation and hepatocellular carcinoma. Research focus: causes and mechanisms underlying liver disease and liver cancer with an emphasis on translational research; within the LiSyM-Cancer consortium he coordinates and leads the SMART-NAFLD study and heads the DEEP-HCC project (patient cohorts, sample collection, preclinical research).
