Head of the Department of Internal Medicine I at UKSH Campus Lübeck (since November 2019). Studied medicine in Heidelberg, doctorate at the German Cancer Research Center, clinically active until 2008 in gastroenterology and hepatology at University Hospital Cologne. From 2011–2015 research associate at the National Cancer Institute (Bethesda, USA), studying the genetics of liver tumors, then from 2015 senior physician for hepatology and oncology at Mainz University Medicine. Research focus: molecular hepatocarcinogenesis, gastrointestinal oncology, care of patients with liver cirrhosis, and translational and nutritional-medicine research in chronic liver disease and cancer.
