Prof. Dr. med. Alexander Koch, MHBA, is acting clinic director and head of the intensive care medicine section at the Department of Gastroenterology, Metabolic Diseases and Internal Intensive Care Medicine (Medical Clinic III) at Uniklinik RWTH Aachen. Career: Koch built his career within Medical Clinic III in Aachen, where his work spans internal intensive care medicine as well as gastroenterological and metabolic questions. Research: His research group (AG Koch) focuses on intensive-care topics: sepsis diagnostics through systematic collection of blood, stool, and urine samples for early detection, big-data analyses based on the Aachen Critical Care Trial (ACCT) database maintained for over 20 years with around 8,000 patients, digital medicine (automated nutrition monitoring, smartphone-based therapy individualization), and health-economic analyses of cost-effective treatment approaches in intensive care.
